Reading this felt so expansive and freeing. Great piece, Amy!

And these quotes are gold! 😁

"Control is just another form of fear wearing competence as a disguise."

"Perfectionism, another form of self-hatred in expensive shoes."

Thank you, Sean. I really appreciate you reading and taking the time to comment. I’m so glad those lines landed—it took me a long time to see that control is just fear in disguise. I’m still learning to soften my perfectionism. It’s all a practice. 💛

It is absolutely an ongoing practice, still working on it myself. This was a good reminder. :)

This is stunning. It reads like both a confession and a homecoming. The way you describe the shift from control to surrender—“control is just another form of fear wearing competence as a disguise”—hit like truth I didn’t know I needed to hear today.

There’s something so powerful about your framing of surrender not as giving up, but as sacred participation. That phrase alone feels like a whole teaching.

Your words remind me that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is stop steering the river and finally let it carry us. Wishing you ease and wonder in your Surrender Year—it feels like the beginning of something real.

Wow, Nat—thank you for such a beautiful note. I’m honored my piece landed so deeply for you.

You’re right—surrender really is the bravest thing we can do. To me, it’s an act of faith in the Divine, a remembering that something larger is always at play. It’s the ultimate trust: that life is a benevolent force, steering us toward what we most long for, even when we can’t yet see it 💛

I'm in a year of transformations - I'm saying goodbye to my old "Me" while I'm slowly getting to know my new "Me", where it seems to have let go of control and is trying to enjoy life more. Of course, this doesn't make the problems go away, but I realize how little things are under my control - I try not to focus so much on the negatives, but to look at the present with a smile and courage. I recently read a very nice quote - take the fire from the past, not the ashes. And I'm still thinking about it, and your text once again reminded me of this exact aphorism.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Ana. I witness your transformation. Letting go of our old selves is a disorienting yet powerful (and necessary) process to become who we've always been. I love the quote you shared: take the fire from the past, not the ashes. Beautiful.

I’ve been here for 5 days and the universe keeps landing me in all the perfect places. Exactly what my soul needs!

I have had a surrender year as well but still figuring out where it’s leading me.✨

I love that, Leslie. Isn’t it incredible how the universe rearranges itself when we finally surrender? Those moments of perfect timing are such beautiful confirmation that you’re on the path meant for you. Keep trusting the flow—it always knows where to lead us next 💛

Beautiful, thank you for sharing! I can really relate, I've set the goal at the beginning of the year to let go more and listen more to my inner voice, but I'm just now getting to a point where I understand what that actually means, it still took me months to not just thinking that I'm letting go, but to atually doing and feeling it. I guess that's part of the journey. i'm right there with you, in the Surrender Year. I love that!

Thank you, beloved Eva. I love that you’re in your own Surrender Year, too. It definitely does take time to move from thinking about letting go to actually feeling it in your body. That shift is everything. It’s beautiful that you’re listening more deeply now—trusting that inner voice. Here’s to both of us learning to let life lead 💛
